Most people, at some point or another, perceive, conceive and believe in certain dreams, which are meaningful to them! Similarly, when someone in a position of leadership, proceeds with the necessary degree of discipline, commitment, and personal vision, he begins to earn the right, to be considered, a leader! However, unless/ until, he does something, proactively, about it, little of consequence, happens for his organization, and, once - again, we witness another case, which ends up, as little, more - than - empty promises, and rhetoric. Even, when the individual, is sincere, and well-intended, achieving something, which might, hopefully, make a relevant, sustainable difference, for the better, it is necessary to take clear, well-considered, ACTION, to meet, and exceed, one's objectives. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why it matters.
- Attention; aptitude; articulate; attitude; action plan: A real leader must be ready, willing, and able of paying keen attention, to what his group needs, and its strengths, weaknesses, obstacles, and challenges! It takes the discipline and commitment to obtain a relevant aptitude, and, skill - set, to align one's dreams, with achievements! This only becomes possible, when someone proceeds, consistently, with a true, positive, can-do, attitude, and, openly, articulate and inspiring, motivating message, to those he serves and represents! Beginning with an objective evaluation, including whether the organization's mission, is still relevant, etc, groups, generally, benefit, when they periodically, use strategic planning, to perceive and conceive of, create, and implement, the best possible, action plan, for the specific organization, at this point, in time!
- Character; change; creative; coordinate: One must possess a true, quality of character, which puts the best interests of the group, and constituents, ahead of any personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self - interest! The change serves little purpose, unless it brings about a difference, for the better! Aligning creative alternatives, with time - tested approaches, let someone coordinate, activities, to the best, of his abilities!
- Timely; time - tested; trends: When one knows, recognizes, and clearly understands, relevant trends, and is professionally trained, to know, the rime - tested principles, etc, and aligns that, with the self - confidence, and ability to proceed, in a well-considered, timely manner!
- Integrity; innovate; imagination; instincts; intentions: Great leaders must possess, as well as perceived as possessing, absolute, genuine integrity, especially, when doing so, may not be convenient! They need a meaningful image, and a readiness to innovate when it is in the group's best interests! When one hones his skill - set, and service-oriented, intentions, he has the best chance of transforming dreams, to relevant actions!
- Options; opportunities; organize; open - mind: The willingness and ability to consider various options and alternatives, with an open - mind, enhances the possibilities, potential, and opportunities, to make a true, necessary, change, for the better! How one organizes the specifics, differentiates, between, being possible, and more probable!
- Needs: Leading and making decisions, must focus on the needs, goals, priorities, and perceptions of stakeholders, and, never, the leader's personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self - interest!
Taking well-considered, ACTION, is the only way, to consistently, reliably, transform dreams, to achievements! Are you up to the task?
